Oey Koen Beng mempopulerkan cokelat di Indonesia. Sekitar 30 tahun kemudian, 20-an industri lokal memasok kebutuhan produk cokelat di sini. Mereka memodifikasi produknya agar klop dengan selera kebanyakan konsumen Nusantara.Sampai awal dekade 1980-an, cokelat sebagai bahan untuk cake decorating belum begitu populer di Indonesia.
